Necrosis of the sheath (NF), commonly called carnivorous disease is a type of infection that leads to the death of soft tissue in the body. This deadly disease spreads rapidly. Symptoms include: red or purple skin in the affected area, severe pain, fever and vomiting. Most areas are at risk of organ and perineal infection.

Risk factors include weak immune system function such as diabetes, cancer, obesity, alcohol addiction, drug use required intravenous injections, and peripheral vascular disease. The disease is not normally spread among people. The disease is divided into four classifications, depending on the infectious organism. Between 55% and 80% of cases involve more than one type of bacteria. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is involved in a third of cases. Medical imaging is useful for confirming the diagnosis.
