( FIDE Master ) The FIDE Master title (abbreviated FM) is one of the official titles that a chess player can receive from the International Chess Federation (FIDE). It is the third title of Excellence a player can achieve and only comes after the Grandmaster and International Masters titles. Once a player has achieved FM status, they will keep it for life unless fide cancels it for disciplinary reasons.
