Acronym of PIA
( Polysaccharide Intercellular Adhesion ) Staphylococcus epidermidis - Coxy gram positive and coagulase negative in the genus (genus) Staphylococcus. These bacteria-part of the symbiotic flora of human skin and have been seen in the mucous membranes of many animals as well. Staphylococcus epidermidis is one of the most common species of lubricating environments and testing. Although the bacterium is not normally pathogenic.it has the ability to cause infections in people whose immune systems are weakened. These infections can be nosocomial or community-acquired, but the nosocomial type poses a higher risk to patients. Patients who use catheters or implants have a higher risk of disease because the bacteria have the ability to create biofilms on these devices.
